Brief
History -
Hello!
I am Phoebe, and I started learning piano as a child. The beginning of
my musical journey was higgelty piggelty as I had a string of teachers
who didn’t pass on a love or joy of music, which I believe is essential.
Hence, I desire to pass on the joy of music (regardless of how tricky
and complicated it can sometimes be!).
I
have just completed my Bachelor of Music, majoring in classical piano
performance at UTas. At the Conservatorium, I studied piano under Shan
Deng, who passed on a love for improving my technical abilities and enabled
a deeper understanding of my natural ability to express with the music.
I
have a particular love for classical music and anything very expressive,
emotional and/or contemplative. There is a world of different styles and
emotions in classical music, and they all have a depth that is a joy to
explore and discover. If you have a complicated feeling needing expression,
I am sure you can find a classical piece to express it.
As much as I love classical music, I am comfortable teaching other genres
at a beginner level. In fact, I would prefer to introduce my beginner
students to a range of styles so that they can find something best suited
to them.
Teaching Philosophy -
My
teaching philosophy is to enable my students to enjoy playing the music
they wish to learn. I focus on expression, technical abilities, and theory
in my lessons. I believe that music becomes more fun when you have the
knowledge and technical ability to express what you want. I like to tailor
my teaching methods towards the learning style of my students. I am happy
to teach for classical AMEB exams and piano for leisure AMEB exams (currently
up to grade 6 or 7, but can go further) or for no exams at all! I like
teaching all ages, but I am particularly good with children.
