Brief History -

Hello,

My name is Zac Gordon and I have been playing drums for 16 years. My interest in drums started when I was 2yrs old. My first teacher, Brett Slade, gave me my first proper drum kit for my 2nd birthday and I was hooked! I started weekly lessons aged 4yrs. I was asked to join the primary school SENIOR Concert Band in YEAR 1 (not year 4, as was the rule).

I have played and performed drums all my life and in year 5, I commenced my AMEB CPM Drumkit exams. I passed each exam with CREDIT and completed them all by year 8. I received a Scholarship into my high school on drums and I've played in Concert Bands, Wind Ensembles, Stage Bands and Rock Band all through school. I have my own side project with friends; The Squadron, who play locally when we can.
My Deputy Principal at high school recommended me for a job teaching at Cowan Public School, where I taught for 2 years, until Covid struck, at which stage I took the students to teach at home, where I still teach currently.

I have studied with some great teachers including Brett Slade, Paul Watson (John English and The Choirboys), Dave Horgan, Mike Hague(Chuck Berry, Elvis to the Max) and Raph Strazzullo. Over all the years learning with these inspiring teachers, I have mastered techniques that make it easy for students to learn and play. I have enjoyed passing on these techniques and skills to my students who have benefited just as I have. My passion for music has grown as I studied more and I am now competent on guitar, bass guitar and vocals. I have been asked to accompany HSC performers for the last 4 years and was thrilled to hear my HSC piece "What About Me" was nominated for inclusion in the 2021 HSC Encore performance at the Sydney Opera House after the judges were impressed with the high quality of my performance. I have also received the Senior Award for Excellence in Music for 2021 at Asquith Boys High School.

My teaching Philosophy -

Since all students are unique, I cater all my lessons individually to each student while trying, at all times, to give them the basic skills and knowledge applied to all drumming.
My aim is to teach students to master the drums with an easy playing style, regardless of what that style may be. Drums can be a strenuous instrument to play and it can require stamina, so having the correct techniques in place is very important.

My Interests-

My musical taste is very eclectic. I like to chill out to anything from crossover country to heavy metal. I have a great appreciation for good music and love to play live whenever I get the chance.

Styles of Music taught-

I am proficient in most drumming styles and so I don't really have a preference of teaching any articular style. I am happy to put students through their Drumkit Exams or help them with their band music or just teach them for their own enjoyment.

Testimonials: "Zac is great! Our young drummer always finishes his lesson with a smile on his face and his head held high. Zac encourages and supports him to explore his own musical tastes which means there is a whole lot more music in our house. We highly recommend Zac for anyone who is looking to bring out their inner drummer." Mel & Archie M

"We have been really pleased with the way Zac has approached Josh's drum lessons. Zac understands how to motivate Josh by choosing suitable songs that stretch him and build his skills, while keeping it manageable. Zac is also good at choosing songs that appeal to Josh and after 18 months of lessons he is still progressing well." Colette and Phil.
