Brief History Hello!I’m Jade and I’ve been playing piano since I was 5 years old. I also play guitar, bass, sax/clarinet, violin/cello, drums and vocals. But my primary passion is the piano, for its versatility and seven octave range. I completed AMEB Grade 8 level in piano during high school, and then went on to become an AMEB accompanist for all grades. I have taught music for over ten years, and my number one teaching philosophy is that music should be fun! I have experience performing and teaching across many genres of music, from jazz to classical to rock. My aim is to provide students with a comprehensive foundation of musical knowledge whilst adapting lessons to each individual student's ability, interests and learning style. I’ve found the greatest success comes from encouraging a student to take ownership over their own musical journey, with my role being to guide, support and a nurture creativity.
Musical interests I love any, and all types of music!
Style of music taught I will gladly teach my students anything that peaks their interest. After all, music is about making wonderful discoveries!

Sasha Oreshkin

- Available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Hello! My name is Sasha and my love for music started at a very young age and continued to grow as I discovered new and varied genres. I started learning the piano at 6 years of age and though at times it was challenging to continue practicing music has given great joy and helped me through many difficult times, my biggest wish is to help others to find the same sanctuary within music.
I have completed up to grade 6 in AMEB piano and am currently in my last year of studying a Bachelor of Music at Excelsia College. During my years of teaching I have gained valuable insight into how to meet my students at their level and guide them on the journey of discovery that music provides.
I am very fortunate to be able to pass on my passion to those that are seeking to improve their musical repertoires and knowledge. I believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment that provides a level of challenge and guidance to refine their skill. My lessons are a combination of hard work and fun. One of the most important parts of learning the piano is learning to love the music itself. Music can be taught and trained by anyone, but it is through a love for playing that a performer truly shines.

Brief History Hi,I'm Cara and I began my music adventure at a very young age; having tried my hand at playing a multitude of instruments and styles before finally finding and realising what made me fall in love with music, singing and piano.
I believe in letting students choose the direction that they wish to take with their music education; whether that means they would like to begin preparing for AMEB exams or if they would like to take lessons for the pure enjoyment. I love to helping students on their discovery of music and the joy it brings.
With my passion for teaching voice and piano, I’m dedicated to nurturing young talents and fostering a real love for music in every student. I am currently studying Contemporary Music Practice at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and I have been trained in a variety of different vocal genres from my years as a part of the Victorian Opera’s Youth Ensemble and performing in Jazz Clubs whilst honing my songwriting and production abilities. I am happy to get beginner piano students started and am comfortable taking them up to around grade 3-4.
I specialise in teaching younger children though am comfortable with any age student, and in my lessons my priority is to create a dynamic learning environment, encouraging creativity and an exploring each student’s unique musical voice.

Brief History and Highlights Hi! My name is Lauchlan and I’m a saxophonist and clarinetist with over 15 years of experience. At the moment I am in my final year of university, studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) for Classical Saxophone at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I have performed in solo, chamber ensemble and wind ensemble/orchestra settings, including the SYO’s Symphonic Wind Orchestra and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Wind Symphony. I have completed AMEB grades from 1 to 8, along with a Saxophone Certificate of Performance (Cmus) with High Distinction, and an Award with Distinction for Associate of Music (AMusA) for saxophone.

When it comes to playing any kind of music, it is important to be practicing and focusing on technique as it is the backbone for everything that you play. Improving technique is one of the primary goals I have towards all students, and as they progress new doors will open to more skills, repertoire and opportunities beyond the students’ imagination!

Hi there!I’m Ananya, a friendly and dedicated flute tutor with over 10 years of experience playing flute and piccolo, as well as experience on saxophone. I have completed AMEB exams from Grade 1 through to Grade 8, achieving an average result of an A, and I also have over two years of teaching experience working with students of varying ages and abilities.I am passionate about creating a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel supported, confident, and motivated. I believe that children learn best when they are enjoying themselves, so my lessons balance structured learning with engaging activities that help students understand their instrument and the music they are playing. As students progress, I introduce music theory in a clear and age-appropriate way. This helps students build strong foundations, improve sight-reading skills, and develop the independence needed to approach more challenging music with confidence. Most importantly, I place a strong emphasis on building a warm and trusting relationship with each student. I want students to feel comfortable in lessons and excited to learn, so that practising becomes something they enjoy rather than something they feel pressured to do. My goal is to support both students and parents by fostering a genuine love of music and steady, confident progress over time.

Teaching Philosophy
I am here to help you to see if you've got what it takes or if you just want to see if you have any musical skill at all. I love opening up the joy of music to any one and everyone no matter what there age.I do this using mainly formal guidelines from many well known tutoring books but I'm also here to guide my students through exams and any school band music they bring in. I love to also introduce my students to new music that they might think is "outside the square", but only if they're interested.
My Musical Interests
Anything and everything mainly. I love Classical as my over view shows but I listen to everything.
Styles of Music Taught
I teach what you want to learn, using books and other media so come along and see what happens!
Brief History
Hello, I'm Timothy Rees and my brief history goes something like this. I was born in Sydney in 1980, and grew up on the NSW Central Coast. At age 11 I began learning to play trumpet and started composing not long after. I attended Central Coast Grammar School where I was awarded school colours for my contribution to the musical activities in the school. Subsequently I have studied composition with Colin Spiers, and trumpet with John Kellaway at The University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, and have been active as a musician playing with community and semi-professional groups such as the Central Coast Symphony Orchestra, Gosford Philharmonia, Wollongong Symphony Orchestra and Waratah Brass. I am also keeping busy teaching brass students and taking school ensembles both in Sydney and on the Central Coast.
2004 saw the premiere performances of a number of my Compositions including: Procession Through the Inner Night for solo Viola and Tape (2003); Vocalise for Soprano, Viola, Cello and Piano (2004); Three Images for Brass and Percussion for Orchestral Brass Ensemble (2004); and Fanfare and Suite for Trumpet and Tuba (2004); and the composition of the Sonata for Trombone and Piano (2004). I was awarded a New Work Grant for Emerging Artists from the Music Board of the Australia Council (the Australian Government arts funding and advisory body) to compose Metamorphoses for string orchestra for the Australian String Academy (ASA) Summer School 2005. Metamorphoses received two performances during the ASA summer school, on the 29th of January 2005 at St. Joseph's convent, Kincumber, and on the 5th of February 2005 at St. Andrews Cathedral, Sydney.
2005 saw the composition of a number of works, including: 'with a resounding spark...' for Trumpet and Piano, Zymergy One, Liquid Insurrection and Silhouette for Big Band, Shihaya for Oboe and Piano, The Golden Age for Trumpet and Percussion, and a number of smaller compositions and arrangements for students and student ensembles.
2006 has seen the composition of a Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, Festive Fanfare for Brass Ensemble, and Redgum Blues, Radius and Wamberal Riffs for beginner (primary) school band. I am currently composing a large cycle of Preludes and Fugues for Brass Quintet. Wow , did I say a brief History. I've been busy!

My Educational Philosophy
If you are serious about investing your precious time and money then I want to make sure you get true value out of that investment. You must understand one thing though- you only get out of it what YOU put into it. The reality is if you can't put in 20 minutes a day/5 days a week then you will not progress. Forget the ads on Facebook saying "Learn Guitar in 5 Minutes!" as that is rubbish. Copying what someone shows you is copying, and you may think you are being taught, but have you learnt? Using my "Gordon System" I will "TEACH" you in an informative and fun way as I believe lessons should be educational and entertaining! I do this using...
  • Videoing or recording your lesson if you like so you can relax during you lesson. I am the ONLY teacher at The Lounge that offers this service)
  • A large 22" screen and cool 5.1 surround sound with Spotify, Youtube and programs like Guitarpro 5, Chord Wizard, Powertab and Absolute Fretboard Trainer and many more
  • Software that slows a song right down to a speed you can play along to (as well as doing many other things). The best teaching tool ever!
  • Over 30000 tabs and midi files, great sounding backing tracks at call
  • A proven system of teaching with 100's of free handout sheets
  • Teaching you to learn the songs you want to learn!
  • Systems that make sure my students understand important basic musical ideas and concepts, relating to the music they listen to, NOT just showing them some songs and riffs
  • A fun and informative attitude

Style of Music Taught

"Practice - the art of absorbing, mastering and maintaining a skill, not just playing a few songs"
    Hi Mike / Vanessa
Sadly, C** no longer wishes to continue with his guitar tuition. I have tried to encourage him to keep it up, but I’m sure you’ve noticed, Mike, that he has lost his enthusiasm for it. He doesn’t practice at home anymore & says he just doesn’t want to continue. This is absolutely no reflection on you as a teacher - C** has loved learning with you & I have enjoyed getting to know you both over the past 7 or so years. You are a very talented family & your passion for music is reflected in the way you run your business.
I will be sad to not drop him off every week & I have missed attending in person since stupid COVID put restrictions on everything.
I can’t thank you enough for your encouragement & support of us & thank you for the gift that you have given to C**, which I truly hope he will come back to some day (even if it’s just picking up his guitar every now & again & having a strum).
I hope you can fill his lesson time quickly! I will always recommend you & The Learning Lounge highly.
Take care & thanks so much again

Nirvana Bista

Brief History
Hi,My name is Nirvana, and I am originally from Nepal. For those, who don’t know, Nepal is a small, beautiful, and hilly landlocked country right in-between India and China. I grew up there and later moved to Australia to pursue music as a career.
I started playing guitar at around the age of 12 and have been captivated ever since. Since I was predominantly a self-taught guitar player in my formative years, my approach to music and guitar has been very empirical. I have been performing since the age of 12 and started out as a rock guitar player. I eventually found myself playing prog rock/metal and finally transitioned into gypsy jazz and other various forms of jazz and fusion. Even though I feel like I have a lot to learn and work on as a guitar player/musician, I feel like I am at a stage where I have a lot of cool stuff to share with other fellow guitar/music lovers. I graduated from the Bachelor of Music Course at Excelsia college in 2021 and am currently studying The Master of Music Course there. In Sydney, I have found myself performing in a lot of different styles and venues such as wedding and corporate events, worship music at the WIN stadium entertainment centre for the LIVE festival, jazz shows at various jazz clubs with Ms. Stone and the Velvetones, various Nepalese restaurant such as Gali Gali at town hall, chulo at Harris Park, various Nepalese rock fests etc. I am also very active in studio session guitar work with various artists in Nepal and play regularly for pop projects and movie scores in the Nepali scene in both Australia and Nepal. A recent session I did for the new Coca-Cola ad in Nepal with my good friend and music composer Utpal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ9H-E9LZW8
Invitation to learn:
Music has always been a language to me. Let us embark on this journey to learn and understand the language of music together and in doing that lets understand this beautiful instrument we call guitar. For those who are curious to know if my real name is Nirvana or not, come ask and say hi :)
My Educational Philosophy
As a teacher I believe my job is to show my students the immense possibility of music and guitar. Guitar can be an incredibly complex instrument and I hope to help my students deal with this instrument in the easiest way possible. Being a self-taught player in my earlier years I have had to deal with a lot of the plateaus that musicians struggle with and have been fortunate enough to figure my way around these problems. I wish to share every piece of knowledge I have with my students and help them develop and find a voice in the instrument. I further wish to offer music theory, Sight reading skills to my students. I also try to encourage my students to regularly bring in songs they love, as learning material that is familiar to the student encourages daily practice.I love teaching any form of music, ranging from rock, pop, jazz, gypsy jazz, fusion, funk, prog rock, metal, Nepali traditional etc. My goal is to get my students playing and understanding the styles they love and ultimately being able to create or improvise in that context of music or ensemble. The ability to listen to what is happening musically in the moment and create from within has always been the overarching focus of my teaching philosophy.I have also had extensive experience in teaching students of all age groups and am aware to adapt my teaching methods to the students learning process. Dave Carr

Brief History
My name is Dave and I play and teach guitar, bass and banjo in a wide range of styles. I’ve been teaching since 1997, including many high schools and music schools. I’ve also taught Alexander Technique workshops around Australia and in Brazil. I have a Bmus.Studies in Musicology (Sydney Conservatorium Of Music 2003) and .AUSTAT: Alexander Technique (BodyMinded: Sydney Alexander Technique 2016)
Teaching Philosophy
I’ve played music all my life - violin as a child, then cello, and at 13 I discovered bands like Nirvana and Metallica, picked up a guitar, and was hooked. From that point on music has been my passion.
I began playing gigs from the age of 16, and around the same time began experiencing pain in my left arm when I played. As I pursued a career as a professional musician, I felt devastated by the discomfort I experienced, and by the need to take extended periods off from playing, often for six months at a time. Over time I’ve learned to manage these issues and now perform regularly. One of the most important elements in my recovery has been the Alexander Technique, a method of moving efficiently through improvements in coordination, movement strategies and self understanding.
Parallel to my Alexander training, I also studied classical guitar with Phillip Houghton, who had an incredibly detailed approach to teaching technique and phrasing. The combination of my Alexander Technique skills and new guitar-specific skills enabled me to get back into performing again, and my experiences mean that I can help students avoid similar issues.
I’ve been performing professionally since 1998, including national and international tours and appearances at many festivals. Lately I've been performing primarily with my jazz-metal fusion band Fabulous Contraption, and Gypsy-world fusion band Lolo Lovina.
My Educational Philosophy
Teaching is about helping the student set the conditions to learn what they want to learn. I’m curious about what approach works best for you, with your desire at the core of the process. I particularly enjoy supporting students to find their own voice, whether in writing their own music, improvising, arranging, or simply exploring their passion freely. The lessons can go as deeply into technique and theory as is appropriate for you.
Musical Taste
We can study various styles including rock, metal, classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music.
Techniques taughtGuitar:Classical guitar techniqueElectric guitar: flatpicking, hybrid and slide guitarFolk techniques
Bass guitar fingerstyle Banjo: three-finger (bluegrass) techniquePeople tend to come wanting to play bluegrass, and later on they often seek more variety. We can work on traditional material and where appropriate, we can branch out into other styles like metal, jazz, folk and world music.I enjoy showing people how to apply standard banjo techniques to the styles they love. Learning the rules is important, and breaking the rules is a lot of fun!

Zac Gordon

Brief History - Hello,My name is Zac Gordon and I have been playing drums for 16 years. My interest in drums started when I was 2yrs old. My first teacher, Brett Slade, gave me my first proper drum kit for my 2nd birthday and I was hooked! I started weekly lessons aged 4yrs. I was asked to join the primary school SENIOR Concert Band in YEAR 1 (not year 4, as was the rule).
I have played and performed drums all my life and in year 5, I commenced my AMEB CPM Drumkit exams. I passed each exam with CREDIT and completed them all by year 8. I received a Scholarship into my high school on drums and I've played in Concert Bands, Wind Ensembles, Stage Bands and Rock Band all through school. I have my own side project with friends; The Squadron, who play locally when we can.My Deputy Principal at high school recommended me for a job teaching at Cowan Public School, where I taught for 2 years, until Covid struck, at which stage I took the students to teach at home, where I still teach currently. I have studied with some great teachers including Brett Slade, Paul Watson (John English and The Choirboys), Dave Horgan, Mike Hague(Chuck Berry, Elvis to the Max) and Raph Strazzullo. Over all the years learning with these inspiring teachers, I have mastered techniques that make it easy for students to learn and play. I have enjoyed passing on these techniques and skills to my students who have benefited just as I have. My passion for music has grown as I studied more and I am now competent on guitar, bass guitar and vocals. I have been asked to accompany HSC performers for the last 4 years and was thrilled to hear my HSC piece "What About Me" was nominated for inclusion in the 2021 HSC Encore performance at the Sydney Opera House after the judges were impressed with the high quality of my performance. I have also received the Senior Award for Excellence in Music for 2021 at Asquith Boys High School.
My teaching Philosophy Since all students are unique, I cater all my lessons individually to each student while trying, at all times, to give them the basic skills and knowledge applied to all drumming. My aim is to teach students to master the drums with an easy playing style, regardless of what that style may be. Drums can be a strenuous instrument to play and it can require stamina, so having the correct techniques in place is very important.
My Interests My musical taste is very eclectic. I like to chill out to anything from crossover country to heavy metal. I have a great appreciation for good music and love to play live whenever I get the chance.
Styles of Music taught I am proficient in most drumming styles and so I don't really have a preference of teaching any articular style. I am happy to put students through their Drumkit Exams or help them with their band music or just teach them for their own enjoyment.
Testimonials: "Zac is great! Our young drummer always finishes his lesson with a smile on his face and his head held high. Zac encourages and supports him to explore his own musical tastes which means there is a whole lot more music in our house. We highly recommend Zac for anyone who is looking to bring out their inner drummer." Mel & Archie M
"We have been really pleased with the way Zac has approached Josh's drum lessons. Zac understands how to motivate Josh by choosing suitable songs that stretch him and build his skills, while keeping it manageable. Zac is also good at choosing songs that appeal to Josh and after 18 months of lessons he is still progressing well." Colette and Phil.

Brief History Hi there,I'm Ivan Jordan and I am an experienced drum teacher, performer, and music producer with over 35 years in the music industry. My professional background gives students real-world insight into how music works beyond the practice room. Alongside performing, I've spent many years teaching young musicians in schools and community programs, including The Learning Lounge and Ashfield Boys High School, as well as long-term work with Mission Australia’s Sounds of the Street, helping mentor and record emerging artists. I believe I am a patient, encouraging, and adaptable tutor, tailoring lessons to each student’s goals whether that’s building confidence, improving technique, preparing for exams, or simply learning to love music. I hold an Advanced Diploma of Music Production and continue to work as an active recording artist and producer. I have also toured and recorded with high profile bands locally and internationally including- Blue Juice, Ray Beadle, The Widow Birds, King Tide, Paul Mac, Jackie Orszaczky, Abby Dobson, Deni Hines, Gin Wigmore, Tracky Dax, Fergus Brown, Speck, Holly go Lightly, Gelberson, Sarah McCloud, Cafe at the Gates of Salvation Gospel Choir, Gail Page and have also performed at festivals such as Big Day Out, Home Bake, Park Life, Peats Ridge, Sydney Festival and more. My Educational Philosophy Each student is different so I endeavour to tailor my lesson to meet the students goals whether they be short term or long term. By incorporating the many different styles of drumming I play and study I’m able to make the experience challenging and enjoyable! My Musical Interests I enjoy a lot of different genres of music - Rock, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Reggae and Blues.
