Welcome to The Learning Lounge, your trusted destination for personalized music instruction. Whether you're an adult learner or seeking to introduce your child to music, we provide a welcoming environment for all ages and skill levels. Our experienced professional tutors are committed to supporting your musical growth, guiding you every step of the way on your learning journey.
A note for parents of band-age students: many parents choose in-school lessons for convenience or because no other alternatives were offered by the school. Over the last decade, Music Management Companies have increasingly assumed control of school music programs, relieving schools of direct responsibility. These programs often maintain a narrow focus, prioritizing preparation for concerts or competitions, which limit your child’s exposure to a wider range of musical experiences.
At The Learning Lounge, we put emphasis on your child’s comprehensive musical development—encouraging exploration beyond performance pieces, allowing them to bring music they want to learn and integrating diverse teaching methods along with structured graded materials. Remember, not all music lessons share the same goals or quality; convenience should never come at the cost of expert, personalized instruction.

Hi There, I'm Mike Gordon and I established The Learning Lounge in 1998. With the help our talented tutors we began to provide music lessons to local children and adults. Today we are as passionate as we were then to bring the joy of music to as many people of any age as possible!!!
Conveniently located opposite the train station and bus stop at Turramurra, The Learning Lounge now provides it's services with 8 one-on-one teaching rooms 5 days a week to some 200 students a week.
Opening Hours are from 2.00pm til 9.00pm Monday to Thursday and from 2.00pm til 7.00pm Friday. We have a staffed reception area offering a safe and comfortable place for students to wait for pickup and for parents to relax while waiting. Our hours also allow for early drop off of instruments.
ALL ages and levels of ability are welcome to tuition on a variety of instruments. The tutors have completed ‘The Working With Children Check' declaration required of Teaching Business Owners by the Dept. Of Education NSW and undergoing the mandatory police check for working with children. All tutors have public liabilty insurance.
Unique and comprehensive teaching strategies offered by our tutors ensures our students have a way to learn music with the objective of keeping them motivated and enthusiastic. Whether students are in a band (school operated or outside of school) or are learning for fun the tutors can help them explore and develop their musical talent.
Rock School and AMEB exams are also available (not all tutors offer this service) Students wanting to do their grades and sit exams are welcome to arrange this directly through their tutor. Please advise the tutor directly of your requirements when enrolling for exams as the admin staff have nothing to do with exams and lessons.

Where We Are
The Learning Lounge is conveniently located opposite the trains, taxis and bus stop at Suite 2, 1a Eastern Road (Cnr of Rohini St), Turramurra. NSW 2074
Coming from the south - Turn right at the lights at the intersection of Pacific Hwy and Rohini St and you'll see us on the right at the pedestrian crossing just as you turn the corner into Eastern Rd.
Coming from the North - Turn left at the lights at the intersection of Pacific Hwy and Rohini St and you'll see us at the bottom of the hill on the right as you turn the corner into Eastern Rd.

FAQs
Terms & Conditions
As of 01.01.26 T's and C's may change without notification. We have put our terms and conditions in place in an effort to be fair to everyone.
All prospective students must accept the following terms to enrol at The Learning Lounge.
1. RESCHEDULED LESSONS – As free spaces are rare, students are offered ONE rescheduled lesson per term – TIME PERMITTING. To be offered this benefit students must give 24 hours notice to RECEPTION ONLY (not the tutors). We strongly encourage notice be given WELL IN ADVANCE. If a lesson cannot be rescheduled due to lack of timeslots or an insufficient amount of notice time given, it is forfeited, so PLEASE advise Reception ASAP of an absence and no later than week 6 of Term.- Late Notice is considered to be under 24hrs notice of absence and in this case a rescheduled lesson may not offered. No Notice of an absence results in no rescheduled lesson.Rescheduling for illness or extenuating circumstances is solely at the discretion of the tutor (24hr notice reschedules have priority over any extenuating circumstance cancellations)- Your rescheduled lesson must be attended in the same Term in which it was cancelled. Missed or un-rescheduled lessons don’t accrue or roll over to another term. If the reschedule times offered to you are continually declined or rescheduled then cancelled by you, the lesson will be forfeited.-Absence due to injury depends on the severity of the injury. If a student is not in too much pain the tutor would expect the student to attend for theory and musicianship lessons.
2. ALL STUDENTS are ENROLLED for a FULL PUBLIC SCHOOL TERM - or the remainder thereof if commencing after week one. Students pulling out halfway through a Term may not be re-enrolled in the future and term fees may also not be refunded. If a student cannot commit to payment and attendance of a FULL public school Term, enrolment may not be offered.
3. PAYMENTS – Fees are to be paid in full in advance and by the “Due By Date” on your invoice handed to the student at the first lesson of Term.- The tutors do not accept “one off” payments or “pay as you go”.- Unfortunately continued late payments may result in lessons being suspended until fees are paid and a late fee may be charged.
4. DEPOSITS – If you want to re-enrol for the following term & want to ensure your current timeslot is held for the entire next term, a non-refundable deposit must be paid before close of business of the current Term. If no deposit is paid, then your timeslot may be offered to another student. Please understand your deposit is a part payment, a gesture in good faith from you to your tutor that you will attend the next term in full i.e. your deposit is not paying for a lesson - it is to hold your lesson time for the next FULL TERM. Please note - we do not offer refunds on deposits after close of business of the current term.
5. TERM DATES – Term dates coincide with the Public School Calendar only &WE ARE OPEN ON PUPIL FREE DAYS!!
6. PUBLIC HOLIDAYS – We are closed. Lessons that fall on a Public Holiday are not charged.
7. IF YOUR TUTOR CANCELS – A substitute tutor will be made available to you. You may or may not be notified of this. If a substitute tutor cannot be arranged, then we will try to reschedule during the term, credit a lesson to the following term or give you a refund.
8. CANCELLATION OF LESSONS – Lessons may be cancelled at the tutor's discretion for the following reasons: a student is intoxicated by illegal substances or alcohol; a student is rude or abusive to tutors, Administration staff or other students; a student’s attendance is extremely poor; if fees remain outstanding. Please note that if staff notice any student on the premises under the influence of drugs or alcohol, their tutor will cancel the lesson. The cancelled lesson will be charged and where applicable, a parent will be notified. Please note - Any refund of term fees is subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
9. PARENTS IN LESSONS - Our tutors conduct one-on-one lessons therefore it is generally expected that parents will not sit in on lessons after the first couple of weeks. Tutors are however always willing to chat to parents during the last 5 minutes of a lesson regarding progress and practice. If the child is very young or there are special circumstances then the tutor may allow a parent to sit in on the whole lesson for the entire term but please discuss this directly with the tutor if necessary. Email is the tutor's preferred method of communication and then only when discussing lesson material, practice and progress and special needs. Discussions re fees, cancellations and attendance must go through reception.
10. EXAMS - Tutors do not assume you want to study for exams but if want to, that is to be arranged early on between the tutor and the student/parent. The Learning Lounge administration staff handle attendance & lesson payments only.
