Brief History -

Hi, I'm Chris and coming from a musical family, my musical fascination began at a very early age. I began playing guitar & piano as a youngster before falling in love with the drums at 13 years of age. I haven’t looked back since. After bashing away through my high school years I became more interested in technique & musicianship as I left school and this was encouraged further during my time studying at the Australian Institute of Music in Surry Hills where I studied a Bachelor in Music, majoring in Contemporary Performance on the Drum Set. During this period I learnt a lot about technique, a variety of styles of music & the history behind them and most importantly, playing with other people & playing for the song.
Since graduating, I began teaching, have toured the country in various bands of varying genres, been lucky enough to record in the U.S. with producer Michael Baskette (who has worked with Slash, Incubus & many more), and made a lot of friends along the way. I continue to create my own music & am currently playing in a number of original acts across Sydney as well as doing freelance/session work when needed.

My Educational Philosophy -

My philosophy revolves around tailoring my lessons to whatever goals you, the student, would like to achieve - whether that be a short term goal or a long term goal. There are certain fundamentals I like to ensure all my students have which include: proper, strong technique (both hand & foot technique), building a strong time feel, an understanding of music forms/song structures, building an arsenal of grooves/beats & fills in different styles of music, reading skills & most importantly, having fun! Music is meant to be fun so this is something I will always encourage for all my students! So if there are certain songs that you would like to learn, let me know - I’ll be more than happy to teach you them!

My Musical Interests-

I enjoy a lot of different genres of music - from rock to soul to jazz to progressive styles to pop to pretty much whatever else you can think of. I enjoy Rock, Jazz, Pop, R’n’B, Hip-Hop, Metal, Reggae, Latin/Afro-Cuban, Progressive rock/odd time signatures and solo concepts.
